take it OR leave it

So this past weekend was one planned full of family fun.  Sure enough we had some fun.  Okay…well, let me just say there was some fun… (key word being SOME).  There was also some (don’t forget the key word) not so fun occurrences. Let me explain.  All week I was looking forward to family time at the Plano Balloon Festival Friday evening.  We planned to meet dear friends there and let the kiddos play.  As we arrived that evening, it was raining.  That part was okay because it stopped and even cooled the temperature a tad.  The not so fun part is when we paid $20 dollars for Brayden to have unlimited time in the bounce houses (as he explained he was eager and excited).  Uh, not sure what went wrong.  All I know, is he was having no part of it, he started “fussing,” and even crying. He kept saying he wanted to go home. I think maybe the crowd somehow overwhelmed him and he became over stimulated.  I also think the “stick to the rules” lady who insisted that she put on his bracelet, frightened him.  I’m not making excuses…I’m just sayin'.  He did play a tiny bit (you’ll see those few pics) but, not near $20 dollars worth.  Just my thought anyway.

Check out the gray clouds moving out.  So happy the rain ended.

These next two are when he was still happy and excited.

We didn’t spend much time at all with whom we planned to chat and play with.  Things didn’t go as planned and I really thought we were just going to pack up and head home. However,…once we made our way (out of the crowd and) to the hill, we planted ourselves on a blanket.  Brayden was TOTALLY fine.  He even ate, enjoyed the view, watched people, and read a book or two.  He talked and played with Nealy and her friend, Brianna.  He was all smiles and LOVED the glowing blue sword his daddee bought him.

These two pretty girls get along well and play volleyball together at school.  Oh and did I mention Coach England? Yeah, he’s their cool science teacher;).

um yeah, as you can see above, I didn’t take many photos at the balloon festival but, here is one we attempted of the kids and me.  AND what do ya know? Brayden was ready and we were not. Ha!

Moving on to Saturday, there was a little repeat of what happened Friday evening.  Good grief!  Brayden was in rare form ….again!  I couldn’t believe it. I’m not sure if it was because of the crowd again or if he was just in a down-right bratty mood for the weekend.  He once again, explained that he wanted to go home.  We didn’t give in but, did try to calm him and figure out what the HECK was going on.  We couldn’t figure it out.  (Sigh)!  The good news is, my nephew Carson scored a goal at his soccer game.  It was great!  He was so cute out there running and concentrating.  We were proud.

My Booga-licious ….love this “once in a while” rotten kid…crazy hair and all!

She was being such a good sport considering the circumstances. :)  If it’s not him, then it’s her.  Just when I think I can’t take a rare, “once in a blue moon” 3 year old’s fit, I get a “pinch” of attitude from a 12 year old and…mercy!  What’s the saying?  Calgon, take me away!

Sunday morning….ready to make a Starbuck’s run with Mommee!  He was 100% back to normal (easy going, calm, sweet, very silly and clever kid).  BTW:  He’s wearing his vintage Scooby Doo tee that was Nealy’s in kindergarten.

So, as much as I was hoping for a NO NONSENSE weekend (that I didn’t get).  I will STILL TAKE IT!  I wouldn’t give up my family time for anything. All-in-all, it really was okay.   Brayden’s “time” on Friday and Saturday both passed.  It wasn’t an all day affair, and we ALL WERE able to enjoy each other and enjoy the weekend!  Yep!  I’ll definitely TAKE IT!

I say we spent 2 dollars a min to be in the balloon fest. We went on Saturday and it was so hot my kids were not happy. We went back to the party we were at and they jumped into the pool. Next year I think we will just go to the glow.
