The First Two Weeks

Brayden is two weeks old today! He had his two week check-up with Dr. Katz this morning. He currently weighs 7 pounds 3 ounces and is 20 inches long. He left the hospital at 6 pounds 5 ounces so he is averaging a little over an ounce a day. The doctor explained this is excellent! Everything checked out great. We are so happy he is healthy. Brayden has really developed a little personality. He smiles a lot and even laughed once with daddy. He doesn't like to be bothered at all. That means diaper changes too. All in all he is a super baby boy. He nurses every 3 hours during the day and at night every 4 to 5 hours. Typically Brayden sleeps pretty well. He much rather be held than put in his bassinet. However, Dr. Katz explained it's too early to spoil a baby and that can only happen months later. So, we hold him and rock him as much as we can. He enjoys his play gym and his soothing "calming vibrations" seat. Bath time is a very peaceful time and he even gets so relaxed that he almost falls asleep. He likes for Nealy to hold him and talk to him. He also likes daddy's creative song lyrics and mommy's cuddling.

These first two weeks have been so memorable. It has been much easier than I had anticipated. I'm not going to lie and say it's been easy breezy but, it really hasn't been bad at all. Although, my labor and delivery were easy, my recovery was a little more challenging. My mom stayed with us the first week to really help with meals and keep Nealy occupied. I am proud to say that Scott and I have done everything else ourselves. Scott is amazing. Since I am nursing he can't really help out with feedings but, helps with everything else and cooks meals. Nealy also likes to help out. I really have made an effort to not assign things for her to do, rather let her decide when and what she wants to help with. Well, she asked to sleep on the couch last night so she could get up and help with Brayden. How sweet! She did wake up the first time and slept through the second "wake" time. It was very thoughtful of her to offer. I am one lucky mom to have such a wonderful family. Last, our friends, Jacob and Cat had their baby girl today. Baby Makayla arrived this afternoon weighing in at 6 pounds and 3 ounces. We can't wait to meet her. She will be Brayden's first little girlfriend. We are so happy for them and look forward to many play dates!!! Welcome Miss Makayla!
