Traditionally, we spend Christmas morning at home, the four of us, to see what Santa left for the kids. We have a delish little breakfast and we head over to my in-laws around noon to spend Christmas day with Scott’s family!:) As it always has been full of joy and a yummy traditional Christmas lunch, we knew it would be a very enjoyable family time. As expected, it WAS!

Be still my beating heart. Both kids were in a great mood and no trouble (my babies can be moody…just like their momma) and so it was an easy breezy morning getting ready and packing up the gift to take to Scott’s parents. What a sweet little gift they gave me….happy moods and very obedient.

Grand-daddy is too funny! He was really in the Christmas spirit.

Christmas Eve and Santa Sighting!

Just some Christmas Eve Goodies! Uncle Lloyd and T brought the sweet gingerbread and my sister brought the yummy pumpkin-cheese cake minis. I made some red velvet cupcakes and decorated them with white chocolate bark and even made some that looked like Rudolph with pretzel ears and all…somehow I manage to lose those pics..:( Anyway….

2011 has been a year of many “news” for us! I guess “news” happen almost every year but, the year 2011 was one to remember. I certainly like to reflect and give thanks for our blessings. We started off by finishing up our school year with much anticipation for the summer month. We took a family vacation to Negril, Jamaica. I can’t even begin to tell you how much we enjoyed ourselves and beautiful island. We spent a lot of family time together and planned for Brayden starting preschool, Nealy starting 8th grade, and me starting a school year with new administration. The month of July brought many tears and heart break as we lost our very sweet Grandma Lupe, the kids’ great grandma. It was a very sad time, but what we did and continue to do with God’s help is keep her memory alive by telling our favorite stories about her. One being, Grandma’s 80th Birthday! She will always be missed and remembered daily. We love you grandma. As the year continued, we had more tears when B started attending a sweet little Christian Preschool 3 days a week. It was bitter sweet. Knowing he was not only being taught academics and socially developing, he was learning about God. THAT made the ‘sweet’ outweigh the ‘bitter.’ This year I was also occupied being a part of the PTF Board as one of the two Parent Teacher Liaisons. I love being involved and getting to know people. I especially like the idea of putting time toward helping children and the wonderful teachers and staff at his school. I believe we could not have been blessed any more as we found the perfect school for him. I was also CRAZY-BUSY with my little side – hobby taking lots of photos and making lots of cards this fall. I actually need to update my site…eeks! (That will be a small new year’s resolution). I have to say, this is another huge blessing as it provides me with what I really enjoy doing. I love making people happy and capturing their family’s legacy. This certainly beats the profit…but, I gotta admit, it’s super great to have a “heavier purse” as the Christmas Season begins. :) Scott has built his collection of firearms up this year and has invested time and money to keep our family safe and educated. He has taken courses, gone to the shooting range and applied for his license. I am super proud of him and his diligence and detail to keeping all the firearms locked and secured. Nealy is on a senior competitive team this year, and has continued with private lessons since April. In 6 short months she nailed her running back tuck and standing back tuck. She is consistent and her tumbling is ‘pretty.’ She has had her standing three and toe touch three (three back handsprings). She has continued to improve in the last few months and is working on combinations and hopefully soon, a layout! I’m a proud cheer momma. Brayden has continued to successfully meet milestones and absorb so much of this word around him. He is one smart little fellow who is maturing and becoming very brave. This year was his first year to play an organized sport. Yay, Brayden! Reflecting is important as is setting goals for the new year to come. Oh and do we have plans!!!!! I CAN’T wait to carry our plans and continue to live this humble and full-of-love Everything England Life! The year 2012 is much anticipated. Merry Christmas to all our beloved family members and cherished friends (near and far). God Bless and God willing, let’s make it a GREAT new year!

Gran’s Merry and Bright Birthday!

HaPPy BiRthDaY Gran – We LOVE you!

It was so nice to spend family time honoring Gran. She does so much for all of us. We sure appreciate her and love her so much. It was nice to get together and spend a little pre-Christmas time together just hanging out and enjoying some catching up time.

So, Nealy (me too) got the Ombre’ color style on her hair. I think it looks super fabulous. She got her natural color put back on the crown and around her face (LOVE that it brings out her eyes). She went a shade lighter (from the blonde she had) on some tips and the underneath layers. Isn’t she so pretty? …just wanted to add some cute ones of her AND say that I was happy she was able to join the family time. Seriously, she had me laughing as she told funny stories about Scott….She and he have these “little battles” of “funnies” going back and forth. I have to say, I am usually cackling along with Nealy and in total agreement with her. LOVE my mini-me!

Top 11 of ‘11

Here I go again entering a photo contest just for “kicks.” When I saw that I could pick ELEVEN photos from the whole 2011 year, well, I thought it was going to trouble. The truth is, it was heart warming looking back. I found some of my very favorites. Although, I critique my photos so harshly, I found myself allowing the photos to “speak” to me rather than trying to select ones I used certain techniques/angles/creativity etc. I picked ones I thought communicated emotion, love, and for me, the memories I never want to forget! It was SO hard limiting the spread to 11….

1. This photo of my son was actually taken on New Year’s Day 2011! It illuminates his face and captures his playful-happy personality.

2. After bath time is always a time I want to remember. The warm hue compliments the overall mood & message – he was all warm and snuggly for bed.

3. This photo of my teenager exudes calmness and tranquility. We were on our family vacation to Jamaica. LOVE the contrast and that she was unaware that I was even snapping away.

4. On the glass bottom boat to observe the sea life. Excitement yet peaceful. Can’t help but think of how beautiful she is without a drop of make-up. I also crack up seeing my son in the background with his little corky expression. Just a quick-everyday (in Jamaica…) shot!

5. LOVE.LOVE.LOVE. – The color, the calming energy and remembering how MUCH my son loved the beach.

6. MORE beach, MORE fun, MORE nature!…he is a creative player with the two sticks in hand.

7. one of the very few times my daughter has actually said, “Mom, look! Take a picture!” Her hands. Her treasures.

8. One of the sweetest smiles ever! His eyes exude interest, wonder, and excitement. He was watching Sesame Street Characters singing and dancing on stage. He turned to his daddy to confirm his happiness! Love the soft bokeh and how mustard flag compliments my son’s shirt….all by accident:).

9. Nothing like a swing on the beach! LOVING the bokeh and this is a good representation of how DANG fit my girl is!:) Ha! Honestly, though she is a teenager this picture exudes this kid’s playful energy!

10. Cutest Captain America you ever did see! His eyes say it all:).

11. CHRISTMAS PHOTO 2011 – how could I not include? Look at how they have grown (wiping a tear of love away).

All I want for Christmas is my…

Just in time for a Jolly ‘Ole Christmas as my little man had his very first dental appointment yesterday! Now, I know it’s a few months late er, (maybe close to a year) for this to be his very first. Let me explain. We were not sure of how he would respond in this situation. He doesn’t invade space and he sure doesn’t like his invaded. Especially by strangers. Well, he did FABULOUSO!!! He was VERY brave, listened, and ~~asked questions~~ confirmed that NO drill was going to be used and NO shots were going to be given. He followed all the directions and wasn’t even a little bit worried when the big camera came down from the ceiling to get x-rays. I mean seriously? I COULD NOT have asked for a better appointment. It’s like Christmas Angels were sitting on each of my shoulders and the magic dialog between them included something about me DESERVING a break. These last two days have been PACKED with dental appointments, ortho appointments, dr. appointments, and cheer private lessons. We take advantage of the time off school. We wiped it all out in two days, so we have the rest of the break to have a holly jolly – relaxing Christmas time! :) Well….take a look at my handsome sparkly teeth – brown eyed boy!!!!

So I was able to capture a few of this special event.

This is the gorgeous tree we saw right outside La Madeleine (me and the kiddoes at lunch). B’s great experience at the dentist, made our start to a peaceful lunch…a GREAT one! Looking up at this tree, It’s like I heard the two Christmas Angels singing a joyous song;)!

A Little Christmas Cheer!

Brayden had his school Christmas Party on the Friday before the break. Gran and Nealy volunteered to help and were excited to attend! Nealy didn't go to school bc she had already completed all her exams. It's so great that she was able to be there with him when Scott and I couldn't. Gran too! We are so blessed. Well, these are a few little photos N took for me with her phone:).

Peppermint Stick Cocoa

This is a little treat I have had so much fun making this season(I actually made all the cocoa treats this weekend:). Anyway, I got the idea from Pinterest and added my own little flare. I gave them to some of my favorite peeps.

The jars are quart size and smooth. I added a personalized sticker, fabric for the lid and a ribbon. Voila!

Peppermint Stick Cocoa Recipe

1 cup of sugar

1/4 teaspoon of salt

1 cup of unsweetened powdered cocoa

1 cup of powdered milk

1/2 a cup of mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup of chunky/crushed peppermint

1/2 cup of mini marsh mellows OR peppermint marsh mellows OR both

* stack ingredients in this order and pack with marsh mellows

* makes 12 servings (put all ingredients in a gallon size bag and mix all very well)

*mix in 1/3 of cocoa mix in 1 cup of boiling hot water

MMM Christmas Goodness!

What you need: cone shaped cellophane baggies, rubber bands, googly eyes, red mini pom poms, ribbon, brown pipe cleaners, hot glue gun

I made these in lieu of treat bags for Brayden’s Christmas Party at school this Friday. I figured what kid doesn’t love hot cocoa. Also there aren’t any allergies in the class so it is perfect. What I did change about this recipe is the candy cane is attached and not crushed in the recipe. This gives them an option as I know some little ones are picky with their cocoa, or any food item for that matter. I also made some without the peppermint mini marsh mellows for those who prefer a traditional taste. Okay, so some tips to remember: Use the marsh mellows to pack ingredients * use a rubber band under the ribbon to secure closure well *

Gift-ember, The Season of Giving!

It has been very busy this time of year having booked many ‘o photo shoots and making lots of Christmas Cards. Though I have to admit it’s been fun, I certainly do not want to lose precious time with my family. It IS beginning to look a lot like Christmas and have enjoyed thinking and planning special things for us to do. First, I have to share some very sweet gifts I have already received!

Such a sweet and very thoughtful gift. He is out of town working a lot and he thought of us. I displayed this beautiful plant (it IS real) on my kitchen table for us to enjoy.

This one touches my heart and I probably need to communicate again how thankful I am. Nealy and my mom did this on a day Nealy stayed home from school feeling under the weather. They both knew that I had been working a lot and I was a teensy overwhelmed. This was a gift that was definitely needed and SO appreciated.

One of my many favorite things of the season is receiving cards! Such a fun thing to do – open the mail and see all the pretty and so creative notes of Christmas Wishes!

So, I have done a little giving too! My big boy is seriously a cool kid with a sensitive heart and kind personality. We certainly mold him this way, but I admit he’s a teensy bit spoiled. He’s the baby. Anyway, having festive attire for the month of December is a must. Paired with dark jeans, cool kicks, and a little bit of swagger…how can the kid go wrong?

Now, the title of the post is Gift-ember right? Well, I have been inspired to do just that. Gift as much as we can. If you know me well, you know I am busy and I usually thrive in a “busy” environment. However, I am slowing down to GIVE to my entire family and GIFT together. I have not only witnessed random acts of kindness, I have started them. This month, I want my whole family to be engaged in these activities. Most will be simple but, the idea is to teach my children the kindness (following His path) in giving to others. Here’s a little notecard I made. I am waiting on 50 (they are being printed). We will either put them on cars in parking lots or on front doors in our neighborhood.

I will certainly share some of the gift-ember activities we do! There will be some baking and note making…lots of fun!

Very Thankful

Being able to attend Brayden’s Thanksgiving Program and Feast is certainly something I and the whole family was very thankful for. Watching him sing, pray, and say a verse from the bible was such a blessing. The kids were too cute and did such a great job. They had little hand motions and even danced just a bit (okay, maybe ran in place doing a turkey trot). Needless to say, it was just 100% darling. I know the teachers spent much time preparing and helping the little ones get ready for the big day! We are so thankful for them as they teach little ones the purpose of serving God, and all that encompasses being in school. It was such a nice reminder to be so very thankful for the many blessings this time of year and ALL year long!

There was a cute Pumpkin Turkey as the main center piece for each table. Each table was by class. The week before Brayden brought home a turkey feather to decorate. I’ll go ahead and “fess up,” that I totally did (decorated) the whole thing for him. His feather is the one with with his initials, buttons, etc. He missed a week of school due to having a sinus infection:(. Anyway, these were the turkey’s feathers. Cuteness!

I’m not quite sure B knew what to expect (being his first year in school, let alone program). I was SO unbelievably proud at how well he stood. He was composed, so quietly, still, and focused prior to starting the performance. Once, he saw me, (I ~~crept~~, politely scooted my way to the front for photos:), he was so excited. He just wanted to tell someone, his mommy was there. Hence, his turning around in the second photo. Umm, this is when my tears started flowing.

I got a few of him in action. I couldn’t help but take so many photos as I wiped away my tears of love at the same time.

Some of the super cute details! I took these at home bc I was serving food. I am one of the two Parent Teacher Liaisons on the PTF Board, so I did have a teensy part and responsibility in the organization of the Feast. I’m so glad I was able to thank families for attending (there was a general meeting prior to the performance) and it was nice to have the opportunity to meet many families and teachers.

Each student had a name “plate” as did each of their guests.

This is such a precious idea. You use a toilet paper roll, and gather fabric around it and tuck it in the tube. Add a stem, leaves and use a curled pipe cleaner and DONE! Voila! Darling little pumpkin! This was used as one of the center-pieces on the long tables.

caramel apples m-m-m!

One of our ole’ family faves! The hubby makes them (just buys the little pre-made caramel wraps)! They are so yummy and we just gobble them up. Something about the warm caramel and crisp apple that satisfies a sweet tooth wonderfully. If you haven’t had one, try one. You won’t be disappointed. It’s a GREAT fall treat!

On Halloween Night!

Wow! How I have been meaning to post these few oh so cute Halloween photos. I have to say, we’ve all had the case of the sniffles and coughs. B and I had it pretty darn ~~good~~ bad. SO, needless to say, these are late…but, certainly better late than never.

Halloween night Nealy had her very last VB game. N was playing hard on the court as Scott kept the clock, and B and I were in the stand cheering! The Lady Mavs were undefeated until this very game. I guess you can say, we were given a trick instead of a treat. We were all a little bummed, but our ghoulish moods were short lived. Nealy turned her frown upside down when we agreed to let her sleep over at her Bestie’s with a few of the other girls. Though I was feeling a start to my “sicky symptoms,” I was all smiles as Brayden had been expressing his excitement for Trick or Treating all evening. He even said, “We need to hurry because Aiden (his buddy from school and soccer) is waiting on me. He’s going to be Captain America too!” Well, reality was that Aiden wasn’t necessarily waiting nor did he even know that our sweet Captain America was going to make an appearance at his house! Everything (ideas and plans) really just came like several little gusts of wind….(just as wind sometimes blows) on Halloween Night!!!

We called our sweet friends (Aiden’s mommy and daddy) and explained, that I am a softy and I didn’t want to crush Brayden’s night by telling him he wasn’t going to see Aiden. So sweet of them to happily welcome our short notice-visit.

We had everything set out and ready for school the next morning! We made the Halloween Crayons for B’s class. (His teacher sent me an email explaining the kids thought they were way cool…yay)! We actually had most, left over from last year. So, we just had to package up a few extras and make them cutesy. We were ready for HALLOWEEN! I love this cool long sleeved tee he wore the day of.

Last weekend we had an adventure to a patch full of pumpkins and fall festivities! We invited a few friends to join. Though not many made it, (it was in Flower Mound…a bit of a hike), I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed our fun fall morning as a family and chatting with a few of our favorite friends!

my fall bucket list

This is such a great idea! I found this on Pinterest! I edited the list a little bit so it would better meet the things I really want to do this fall. Very few of the things (like going to a football game) I have done, but certainly look forward to doing again. Most of my bucket list “dos” are specific to fall and I love it! I can’t wait to do all these fun things. I am super excited about checking off as I go! I’ll post my fun memories too! Happy fall y’all:).

just a little farmer

On Friday, it was farmer day at Brayden’s school. In class, they have been learning all about farmyards, farm animals, and farmers. They’ve learned about different fruits, vegetables and food products that come from a farm. At home, we have a few books about farms and videos about John Deer tractors and their jobs on the farm. Brayden is super interested in learning more about farms. Thursday night he let me dress him in his farm duds and take pictures! I was so thrilled! I can’t say he was thrilled but, at least he reluctantly agreed. He makes a dang cute farmer…awe, shucks he’s just a cutie always. Now, because I knew I was working with a gift of a very small amount of time, I shot in auto…TOTALLY didn’t have time to preset aperture value, let alone switch lenses and/or attach external flash…so these are what I captured. I was happy!

This year it was for Cousin Dylan’s birthday party! My sister in law had a little petting zoo come out to their home.

I was SO hoping there was going to be little piglets again…remember this?

Anyway, unfortunately there weren’t any piglets but, there sure was some cute little animals to pet and feed! Of course B had a super time! The weather was great and it was nice to spend some time outdoors enjoying these sweet little farm animals.

As we arrived, Brayden saw the animals and smiled and was excited. However, when we asked if he wanted to go in and pet them, he said, “No thank you.” …(he’s so polite:). He’s also VERY cautious. Anyway, he warmed up to them outside of the fence and that’s all it took! He was off to have a good time!

Early this week, I placed a Scholastic order online for my little scholar! It was the only night I was home early and had him and the house all to myself for a couple of hours. I don’t have this often, and I was in big boy heaven. Having one-on-one time with him is fabulous! Especially, since life is super busy now, with work, and the kids’ extra-curricular activities. Oh, and I’m running for B’s school PTF Board - Parent Liaison. Um, not sure what urged me to do this but, I figure I am decent at communicating and have okay people skills. I can facilitate working relationships between parents and teachers. I’m both a parent and teacher…can’t be too hard. Right? Well, I certainly want to be involved at his school as much as I can. However, chances are, since we are newcomers, and the existing board or parents have no idea who I am, I proooooo-bably won’t be selected, thereby not adding to my current “busy-ness.” Anyway, can I just say, helping to foster a reading foundation for B,(meaning… not only spending the time with him reading books of all genres and providing him with virtual books, it also means spending a sweet “chunk of change,”) is so worth it! I have no regrets. It was fun looking at the different forms his teacher sent home and then ordering online together!

He circled the books he wanted. We chatted about them, and he made final decisions, and d.o.n.e!

Can’t wait for his order to arrive so we can snuggle up (as fall {BIG smile} approaches), and take exciting reading adventures together!:)

Nealy had a girls’ trip to Austin with her besties! They had a blast of a road trip and so much fun hanging at the Texas game! Yeah! She’s been telling me the funniest stories about their trip and adventures. Hilarious! Anyway, these are photos via Nealy’s iphone 4. The quality? eh…, the variety? eh…, the level of fun they exude? UH, …maximum!:) I am CRAZY-THRILLED all the girls had such a GREAT time together. These girls DESERVED a well planned weekend with lots of fun and cheering! They had good times indeed! Shark Week-end…Win!

What a day to remember! It was Brayden’s first soccer game of the season. This was actually his first soccer game he’s ever played in…ever! Well, I can’t tell you how proud we were of our little guy. He did very well. He’s come a long way from his shy and reserved ways. He’s still a little reserved but, he’s really come out of his shell. He woke up and ready to go (PSP in hand)!

Reflecting on the day, I realize that even putting on his uniform could have possibly been an ‘issue.’ BUT, it wasn’t! He was excited and in such a happy mood. Sharks WIN the game! *since the score isn’t kept at this young level, I am not quite sure what the actual ending score was but, I am certain we had more goals:). The Gators played well and did an awesome job too!

All About Me {B}!

It’s Friday evening and all I can say, is I am loving every minute of it. First, though I love me some photo shoots and making friends & customers happy…I do not have one this weekend!:) It’s a nice little break. I’m also super excited because B has his very first soccer game tomorrow. CAN’T WAIT!!! Okay, so let’s go in reverse. Back to today, right now. I am crazy giddy because B has his first “homework” assignment. It’s a “show and tell” project for the All About Me thematic unit at school. Precious. The letter specifically says, please help your child. So, I did! First, I asked Brayden if he even wanted to work on it tonight. He was all for it! He wanted to color himself blue. Hmmm? I suggested he look in the mirror to see if he was blue (I explained the entire project and purpose to him. Trust me…those who know me, know how detailed I am with my words). He came out of the bathroom and said, “No, I am not blue. I am tan, like Neeweee (Nealy).” I have to admit I was secretly satisfied as I thought he would choose the appropriate color for his skin. WRONG! He STILL wanted to color himself blue. I’m just the helper…not the creator. Right? He colored himself blue. Sweet boy! He dictated exactly how he wanted his clothes to look. He was very clear about wanting “army” pants and his grey “cool kicks” for shoes. I gave him a few options on colors for shirts he picked the color and the logo. Actually, I suggested a spider and the number 4 (for his age). He helped me glue and arrange. I don’t know how but, I manage to randomly find the camouflage stickers. Score!:) We had so much fun making his All About Me project.

I know he was proud because not only did he want to run and put on his camo rain boots and rain coat, he made Daddy pause the zombie game AND agreed to photos! Shocking! Ha! Definite fun times in the England Home!

Our school year has officially started! Summer was GRAND while it lasted. We had so much fun in the sun that these few don’t even give our memories justice. However, the best part of “summertime” being over is….planning more memorable sunny times for next summer!

Summer Lovin’

VBS in the Big Apple

A week of VBS for my little guy went well. He missed the last two days due to his little thighs hurting (from shots at his 4 year wellness visit). The Monday VBS started was very difficult for him. It started at 6:30 and ended at 9:00. (I know, kinda late). Anyway, we ended up picking him up at 7:00 because he cried was saying he was sick and he was feeling disappointed. Don’t ask me. We knew it would be a little difficult for him because he’s very cautious of unknown situations or environments. Eighty percent of the time, he’ll ease right in to new places, and then there’s that twenty percent….Yeah, it does not go well. Sweet little guy. I have to say, Tuesday and Wednesday were so great. He participated and truly enjoyed learning more about God and Jesus’ role as his son. He learned the song, Jesus Loves Me in sign language. Adorable! Well, the theme for the week was New York City! The children were learning about the Big Apple but, more importantly how faith and life connect.

Well, Brayden was SO excited to show us his work and explain what everything was. He was too cute saying, “okay, mommy close your eyes and get ready.” He crawled up on to our bed and took things out one by one. I had the blinds open, curtains drawn, and camera in hand.

This one I HEART! He also made a Statue of Liberty hat out of a paper plate and little triangles…not sure how that didn’t make the photos. It’s really cute too!

I can’t tell you how much our hearts were gushing with pride and joy! What an awesome bible school week (um, mini-week). We very much appreciate the teachers and everyone involved in helping make his experience a great one! A special thanks to Gran for taking him and making things easier for us. We are ALL blessed!

I told him we could display his work and he could choose where to display it. I assumed he would pick the “fridge.” Wrong! He picked our bedroom wall. So…..

Beat the Heat

I almost don’t want to say how incredibly hot it has been this month, because it’s such a repeat of what EVERYONE is talking about here in North Texas. Well, needless to say, we haven’t been outdoors. This week Brayden has been attending VBS. The first evening was rough. It started at 6:30 and we picked him up at 7:00. He was crying and saying he was sick and something about being disappointed. Sweet boy. The rest of the week has gone SO much better. He’s learning about about Jesus and prayer. Tonight, he’s staying home because his poor little legs are hurting due to his 4 “pokes” the pediatrician gave him at his 4 year wellness visit. He needs a little TLC. (This will be a small post on it’s own). We will do a little reading and playing….(mommy is back to the early-bird workouts and has been on a few photo shoots). It’s been busy but, a happy time!

This summer, I have had the pure enjoyment of playing with my soon to be school boy. He’s tagged along with me to shop, eat out, hit the “teacher stores,” and so much more.

One of my favorite (and now his favorite) stores is Lakeshore Learning. I found lots of little individual learning materials that my school actually passed out in a kit for our upcoming K students. I made a somewhat hefty purchase and brought home some great hands-on materials. He did have many learning materials already, but it’s always exciting to him, when we add to his collection. It keeps him interested. I also had old magnetic letters in my storage room upstairs that I pulled out. I made a miniature word wall on our refrigerator for my little scholar. (You’ll be able to tell, I had to get creative and actually turn certain letters in to other letters:). Brayden probably knows close to half (in isolation) and maybe all in text. He has done well making connections in spelling patterns. I say, “since you know the word my, you just change the beginning sound and this word is (as I point under the /b/ in the word by…I slide my finger under from left to right)….?” Sure enough, he says, “by!” I’ll ask him to find different words, or bring 2 or 3 over to the other door, scramble the letters, and have him use them to spell the words.

He’s been using his fine motor skills (which is definitely a work in progress). He hasn’t taken a huge interest on doodling, let alone writing. He can make simple shapes and attempts letters and numbers…but, as all learning is developmental, this is an area he is still developing in. Anyway, check out some ways we BEAT the HEAT!

LOVES to cut paper!

These are little tactile numbers (only the number feels like sandpaper). He put them in order to 20. We did a little combining of numbers too. I have lots of creative ways to use these in a little bubble inside my head. Um, haven’t done those things just yet. Remember the early-bird workouts? Man, I am adjusting to not sleeping in:).

Scott started teaching Brayden how to add. He does pretty dang well. Now, granted he’s only added single-lower digit number…but still:) Oh, and he uses his fingers….too cute!

BOB BOOKS!!! I can’t even tell you how they have changed my little guy’s life. He doesn’t LOVE them, and sometimes I have to bribe him to read them. So why do I LOVE them? I really believe they helped him be an early….and I do mean early (young 3) reader! I know his success has a lot to do with the opportunities we provide and I’m sure it helps (totally not bragging) that I have taught kindergarten for over a DECADE. Not to mention, my Master’s in early childhood with a specialty in reading. Okay, so that last sentence wasn’t necessary:). That was bragging:). I guess, I just mean that I know a little bit about how to teach young children to be strong – successful readers and learners in general. I admit, I am a little over the top but, I even created very simple introductions for each book and listed the skill/s I wanted him to learn, along with comprehension questions. I considered his attention span and the fact that when I started these with him, he had just turned 3. The only reason I even created little lessons to begin with, was because I noticed him losing interest (before we even opened the book) and I was losing valuable “teaching” time. I didn’t want to waste a second! I didn’t want to turn him off. I wanted to foster his love of learning. I had to get really creative and a little silly (but, if you know me, silly is typical). So, my intros had to be super engaging. Now, I will say, the books are phonics - based. There is next to no “meat” in regard to story. They get better as the levels go up. There are vocabulary and concept opportunities too. Each set of Bob Books contains 12 different titles. There are a total of 5 sets. Anyway, the beauty of these books, are that they have a picture/sound mini dictionary at the start of each book, sight words are repeated in the set, and they totally set children up for success. I certainly do not use the books exclusively. We read to him and he reads other books independently. We honestly enjoy reading time together. The teacher came out in me as I was journaling, but just to be clear, this is our “playing” and relaxed time together. It’s certainly not a “sit down and listen to me time.” The truth of the matter is, children do not learn by “osmosis.” It’s that simple. Yes, I hear many parents say, “I don’t know how they know all they do.” Or, “I didn’t teach him to read. He taught himself, I suppose.” I find myself wondering, “Seriously, how do not know?” Everything a child does or knows is learned. So, obviously the more opportunities and experiences a child has, increase his success as a learner. I honestly believe some parents aren’t aware of how their children gain knowledge, prior to any formal education. I’m not one to judge. It’s just, I see almost every opportunity as a learning/teaching one. My goal isn’t to create a genius, or even the smartest kid in school. I simply want my little boy to be a confident and successful learner. More importantly, I want him to be a happy, love learning, and a well rounded kid! As for the “I have no idea parents,” the good news is, these parents or someone else, provided learning experiences for their child, without even knowing. I have to admit, I’ve caught myself saying, “Cumulus cloud? How does he even know what a cumulus cloud is? How does he know the word, cumulus?” AND “Who taught him the word, condensation?” I run with this information! I now use these words with him. We read and talk about weather, temperature, and forecast. Who knows? Maybe he’ll grow up and be a scientist or a meteorologist (and be on T.V.)!…..all because we ‘beat the heat’ and played indoors!

Nealy received the spirit stick yesterday for awesome tumbling, awesome jumps, awesome stunting and awesome attitude (hey, hey,;) Congratulations to my girl!!!!

Um, yeah, we sure did put it in the entry. Ha! She keeps it for a week and then another athlete will be chosen. The coaches pick from 30 girls during a two day window. I think it’s pretty. Etched in glass is the team name Sabres! G3FCA2A!!!

A Smurf of a Time!

Yesterday, I took Nealy and Brayden to watch The Smurfs, movie. It was darling! The evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village in the enchanted forest. A few of the smurfs tumble from their magical world and right into central park. They must find a way to get back home, before Gargamel finds them. It’s a sweet feel-good movie with lots of action and cute humor. We went to the 12:40 showing, perfect as it was super hot outside. What’s a better way to spend a little time when it’s too hot to be outdoors? I was proud of my big boy once again. He sat so well and didn’t get frightened by the creepy Gargamel. He loved the action. Nealy even said several times she thought it was so cute and that she really liked the movie. Me too! At the theater, we indulged in hotdogs, popcorn, and Coke Slurpees! I just love movie dates with my two!

In true Smurf Fashion….B wore his vintage smurf tee. He wears it a lot, that’s how much he likes it!:)

Once there was a little teddy…

that was just a basic, very traditional little teddy bear. Somewhere along the way of a little boy’s life, he picked him up and made the little teddy, a little friend.

Teddy became the teddy bear’s official name and goes almost everywhere with the cutest little boy in town. If Teddy doesn’t go, then the little boy finds someone to “babysit” him.

Teddy is very special to the little boy indeed.

Occasionally, Teddy runs into a little fright! With the help of a tricky (and sometimes pesky) big 13 year old girl, the Munch Monster tries to kidnap Teddy and eat him up. The Munch Monster is about 10 times Teddy’s size. He’s scary. The little boy won’t have any of that, so he asks his mommy to keep a careful watch over Teddy, while he battles with the Munch Monster!

Teddy remains cared for and safe!

Teddy and the little boy live a very happy life and continue to battle the Munch Monster with GREAT success. The End

One Love

Our week in Negril Jamaica was UH-mazing to say the very least! I can’t even begin to explain the quality family time we shared. Being away (I mean, really away) from the day-to-day stuff was completely rejuvenating and pleasurable. Spending countless hours on the beach, leisurely walking through the crystal clear water and looking for shells was totally addicting. We spent a lot of time in the Jamaican sun and a little under a tiki hut where we rested. We let the gentle winds blow any worries away and we listened to the waves crash down on giggling little ones. Having the whole family together was priceless. We conversed, laughed, and played together all week long. Sure we had the I pad, I phone, and PSP moments but, they were very seldom. Mostly, they were for the plane ride there and back. I, for one put my phone in my backpack (as soon as we arrived) and didn’t look at it once the ENTIRE week! We shopped a little, and ate a lot!:) It was a vacation and week I won’t soon forget. I am already thinking of our trip back to the island. This is a 7 mile beach with white soft sand and water so clear, you can see the ocean floor about 6 ft down. Yep, it’s a pristine beach, thus, there was an unmatched destination for us this summer.

On the bus to our resort, I was able to snap a few of the city of Montego Bay and a few scenic photos.

We were so fortunate to have my sister in law, and her family travel with us. Carson made a perfect playmate for Brayden and even Nealy had fun playing water volleyball in the pool with him a few nights! It was great!

In Jamaica there is a short rain in the afternoons. Not bad enough to discourage anyone to visit, I must say. Two days it didn’t rain at all, and only one day the rain was more than a sprinkle.

The Show!

As soon as we arrived at our resort, B enjoyed himself a yummy little treat (as he did several times a day…every day on our trip). A few short minutes after we watched a sweet show! He totally loves him a little Sesame Street.

We settled in quickly, I took a quick snap of our view from our balcony patio! Next, we headed straight to the beach. Just in that short amount of time, the light rain had stopped. Aah, I miss Jamaica! This is the exact gazebo Scott and I walked through to get to the alter on the beach at our wedding. :)

We saw many ‘o crabs! Here’s a little sweet one that I might have just scared a little bit as I chased him around, like I was part of the paparazzi. Poor thing! Can you see his two little eyes popping out of the sand in the second photo?

Here’s to Coca Cola Light!:) It’s just like Diet Coke. It’s about the only “light” thing I consumed while on vacation.

This little guy is not too cute.

This little girl was just too too cute! Her mom worked at one of the little shops. She took an interest in me, or maybe just thought I was weird. I am a little over the top when I see cute kids! I kept smiling and giving her little winks and waves. I think I won her over. I asked her mother if I could snap a pic! I didn’t want to forget those sweet eyes…so curious and big.

The Jones Crew

Nealy went snorkeling twice. She and Scott went and then she went with me. Brayden was too young, as you have to be 6 to snorkel. These are photos of when she and I went. The photographer was “crushing” on us maybe. I’m just sayin’. He took so many of us. He would dive down not having to wear a life-jacket and pick up the neatest sea creatures for us to hold and see. Some were, sea cucumber, sea anemone, starfish, sand dollars, coral etc. In the second photo we were holding a sea urchin. We were instructed to leave everything in the ocean as it was. Well,….Nicholas, the kind photographer (photo below), offered (oh, let me be clear that Nealy didn’t ask) to sneak a beautiful shell back for her. She was more than excited! He cleaned it and found us later that night and gave it to her! He also gave me some way cool photography tips and showed me how to use some new gadgets better. Very kind!

The Walk on the famous 7 mile long white sands beach

Okay, so we walked maybe a mile to another Beaches resort even though there was a bus to take, that left to the resort every half hour. Walking is good exercise anyway. Along the way, we found some really great photo spots and neat shells. The walk should have taken us about 15 minutes but, because we piddled around it took us about 40 minutes. It was fun the first 30 minutes or so, then we became hot and thirsty! Good thing there was plenty of cold drinks and a water park at the resort!:) After a few good hours of playing in the water park and eating lunch, we walked back. I was SO hot! I felt like I was physically able to make the walk yet, felt like I was getting overheated. We made it just fine with a little extra TLC from the hubby. So, needless to say I wasn’t snapping photos on the walk back. On the way back it was only about 15 minutes.

My picture perfect girl. She and I had so much fun together. I was an early bird the whole week so she would force herself early too. We were able to enjoy early talks on the beach or at breakfast before the boys woke up.

We ALL loved the lazy river where we just let the waves take us around and around.

Our Anniversary 7.12.2oo6

The beach at night was unbelievably romantic. The night walks were great despite the sand flies biting away at us. I am thrilled our anniversary fell on our vacation week. Coming back to the island we were married on was such a gift. I just love thinking about spending the rest of my life with this man. I am a lucky girl!

I’m leaking this one photo out of our family photo shoot on the beach! We may use these for our Christmas Cards. They’re just fun. However, B wasn’t ‘cheesing’ it so, we may take more later. I’ll still share the rest later, if I choose not to use them for our Christmas Card. Anyway, this is one of my very favorites! My teenager! She’s so pretty and lots of laughs. This one was snapped so quickly, I just think it exudes our bond. LOVE her!

Nealy and one of the Fire Dancers. We watched this show, she and I our last night in Jamaica which was our fifth night. Wow, they were so amazing. Their skill level was unreal as was their body strength and endurance. The performance was very entertaining. They had a few tribal drummers with them too. They picked me to come up and learn a beat or two…:) Nealy took some video on her phone which I hope to post later. Greatness.

Our Special Star Friend

We were going to keep it and let it dry out. Then we felt bad. Scott found it for us, and brought it to Brayden and me right before he and Nealy went snorkeling. Brayden and I were rushing to get showered and bathed before dinner that I quickly tried placing him in the glass with sea water in it. He didn’t fit because he was in a straight star shape. Two of his points wouldn’t allow him to go in. I wet him a little and had to leave him dangling by two “arms” in the glass, to get B in the bath. Poor thing. I was worried about him. When we got out of the bathroom and dressed I ran out to our patio to see how the little guy was. He had contoured his little body so that he would be fully submerged in the water. After seeing this and feeling him crawl across my hand earlier while at the beach, I knew we had to let him go. I wanted a memory….so here it is!:)

Here is my little helper! He agreed it was best to let our friend go. We even chatted about natural habitats!

Our trip was one I wouldn't trade for the world. Jamaica is such a beautiful place and the people are very nice and charismatic. I couldn’t think of a better place to have visited this summer. LOVED it, and having made special memories with my sweet family! I leave you with these two:

There are also a few of the neat wood work that is very popular in Jamaica. 1. My sweet Brayden on Memorial Day Weekend smiling bright just warms my heart. I totally like that you can see his little sweat on the left side of his face. I love the sharpness in his eyes (my focal point). I heart this photo so much I used it on his birthday invite!

2. This one, and the other patriotic shots were obviously taken at the very end of June so we’d have them for my sassy daughter’s July 4th birthday. I feel like this photograph not only captured her overall mood, it depicts my daughters personality well. She is fun, energetic, and lovable.

3. Just love the warm hue and bokeh in this one….The month of April brought so many pretty flowers. Our Texas Bluebonnet is simply beautiful. However, this photo (speckled with just a few) reminds me of my son’s cheerful and calm mood he was in. He was happy to be on hill viewing a wide open field with all the pretty bluebonnets.

4. I like the color and bokeh in this photo. This photo makes my heart beat a little faster and my eyes get a teensy bit watery. I will have this close-up to cherish and view of my daughter when she was so just a week away from turning 13!

5. Again, another one of my “sparkler.” This one warms and soothes me. We used a building that had the American flag painted on it. She LOVED the idea of having patriotic photos made. This photo captures her sincere smile as she was balancing herself sitting a on a bar. Makes me smile too!

I hope to have shared a little about my babies. I also wanted to express what I like about them, a teensy bit of how the photos make me feel along with some memories.

This was super fun and simple! As I am a huge photographer/hobbyist and by no means a professional, I’m taking a little “leap” by actually “entering” my photos. Just call me a risk taker. Ha:)! Seriously, I enjoyed looking in my April – June photo folders and not only picking out my faves but, letting all of the photos take me back in time (even if just a couple months) to these ever so special memories of my two sweet children! Warms my heart!

Celebrating Nealy’s 13th!

A Very Happy Time!

Where have the years gone? I find myself asking this question over and over in my head. My baby girl is a TEENAGER! I just can’t wrap my head around it, just yet. I mean, I see that she’s grown in so many ways. However, I still see her as a little girl sometimes. (wiping a tear away). Nealy McKay is a tremendous girl indeed. I mean, she is totally fun and super funny with a ‘sometimes’ teen attitude. She is certainly taking on some independence and I am proud to say, (although a bit more ‘bold’ and assertive than I), she is a little lady with manners and social grace. Wow, makes a mommy proud. I can’t explain well enough, (I will try) how wonderful it is to have a daughter. She literally is my best friend. She knows me like only a daughter can. I share my insecurities, secret thoughts, and random opinions etc with her and I know she doesn’t judge me (AT ALL). She listens and will simply let me know what she thinks. I LOVE that about her. She keeps me young and young at heart. Her opinion matters to me. She has proven to be a SUCH an AMAZING judge of character too. I once said, “children have a sixth sense, they “see” people’s “true colors” and intentions long before many adults do.” So needless to say, I love having her as my sidekick. I love her and admire her so much!

Okay, so Nealy having a 4th of July birthday is super neat. I think, anyway. These last couple of years, she hasn’t really wanted a “party.” She is cool like that. She doesn’t really even voice what she wants. I just do a little something to celebrate HER! Here are a few little details I set out.

I baked red velvet cupcakes and even hand made the wrappers out of cute corresponding scrap paper. I painted the letters (in her name) to add some personalization to the table. Super simple, yet festive! We had family over and Nealy had one of her best friend’s over too! We served grilled burgers, hot dogs and all the “cookout fixins”. Here’s just a peek of Nealy’s special celebration. She smiled all night and that makes my heart happy.

It was so much fun to plan Brayden’s birthday party this year! I knew I wanted to do something he would really enjoy, yet keep it simple, small, and super cute. He LOVES swimming and being outside. Although, we have had a swim party in the past for him, he is now at an age where he is way more independent in the water. He can take advantage of the fun there is to be had.

Here is the invite!

Lots of bright animal print details added the ‘safari’ feel to a typical little luau. On his party favors, I added “mahalo” in a message, which means “thank you” in Hawaiian. I used my Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom Tree from school and spelled B’s name out in foamy zebra letters for a table center piece! Fun! Right? I made simple cute labels for munchies you couldn’t see (due to being in the zebra containers), like “limbo sticks” for pretzel sticks and “Goldfish” for….you got it! Goldfish!:) Oh and the food tent you see in middle of collage, I found at Target in the DOLLAR bins. They are like mini net umbrellas that fit perfectly over food plates. What a find! Perfect for keeping flies off food and keeping the whole luau cuteness theme going. The cupcake toppers I made to coordinate with his invites and of course had little stickers made with his adorable smile on them. Both the photo stickers and palm tree stickers were 1 1/2 inch in diameter and I punched out tan and black cardstock 2 inch scalloped circles to stick them on. Easy! I used the left over “smile” stickers on his party favor bags. They included: safari kaleidoscope, animal print sunglasses, animal print snap bracelet, and bouncy ball.

A New Season!

Although the new season started in May, it’s actually just starting to feel real. I had my first parent meeting where summer camp, practice wear, uniforms, fees, parties, gifts for the girls etc was discussed. A little overwhelming? No, remember I’m the ultimate cheer mom? Ha! Seriously, our household is excited to see new routines, and attend the competition chaos. As a mommy of a soon to be TEENAGER, (gasp….taking 3 deep breaths), I believe this time during a child’s life is when it is crucial they are active, involved, and engaged. For Nealy, ironically it’s cheer that she loves and strives to improve in. She welcomes the challenge. I say ironically, because if you know her, you know she enjoys sports and is naturally a very decent athlete. She’s not a “dancy-prancy” kind of girl. I personally, have grown to learn that cheerleading is in fact a sport and all the cheerleaders are referred to as athletes. Training is intense with strength building, tumbling, dancing, flexibility, and precise technique. More than anything, the athletes must be strong and have great endurance. Keeping Nealy in cheer contributes to developing a positive self-esteem. I believe this to be very important for a preteen girl. It also continues to teach her about teamwork, positive sportsmanship, self discipline, and it keeps her very heart healthy. She’s made a senior team this year, so most of the girls are older but, Nealy has eased right in and has been coming out of practice with smile (maybe a little out of breath), and she’s certainly happy.

Right now, we have 3 1/2 hours of practice each week. This will increase soon, as a choreography time will be included. Nealy attends a private lesson each week too! We started in April and she looks forward to it every week. Here is her coach, Demond. We just love him! He gives us great feedback and is so friendly. He is an AMAZING guy, so talented and knowledgeable when it comes to training and tumbling technique.

Here’s to another winning season! Love my girl and I am proud to be a mommy to this almost teenager!….(smile).

Simplicities of Memorial Day Weekend

3 day weekends are grand! I personally and silently thanked the men & women who served and are currently serving our country. What a blessing it is to the US to have these courageous men and women. Memorial Weekend is a nice reminder to have and honor them.

The extended weekend for us, was spent with our family. We ate, played, laughed, and relaxed. We started off with a birthday party (see previous post) and then headed over to the in-laws for some super yummy BQ brisket, ham, & turkey. We certainly had all the “fixins” too! Nealy spent much time with her girlfriends and did honor us with her presence the latter part of the weekend. Thus, no Nealy pics in these first few. Anyway, we had some water gun fun! Check out the boys…

Okay, so this has to be one.of.my.favorite.photos. EVER! I love all his cuteness! He makes me laugh. Yes, he is aiming straight at my legs. He did warn me, but I like giving him a hard time (snapping and snapping away with my camera).

Moving on to the backyard for some more outdoor goodness.

Well, Scott’s parents’ backyard backs up to a huge pond. In the yard there are these crawdad holes. For years, Scott has told me stories about when he was little, he and his friend would catch them with fishing wire and piece of bacon. So, needless to say, I am not an “outdoorsy type of gal” and so I found this information to be very interesting. I’ve tried for several years now to catch a crawdad this way (when we spend anytime outside at my in-laws). I’ve never had any luck.

Scott found this claw next to one of the many holes and this was all it took to motivate me even more. I was one determined girl.

So, here is the hole I decided to stick with.

I let my weighted fishing wire, baited with bacon, go in about 4 to 5 feet. Everyone left me alone expect Nealy. She and I waited it out. After about only 5 minutes, all of a sudden, I felt a tug! I started pulling (shocked at how hard) and about 6 inches in, I could see the crawdad!!! SO EXCITING! I started yelling for help but, then realized my yelling might scare the big bug. Nealy ran to get Scott. The crawdad let go, and there I was frowning!:( Well, we could still see it, so Scott’s dad dug it out with a small shovel. LOOK!

Aah so neat to me! …a little creepy.

Brayden was interested too! I on the other hand, well….ummm, you would have thought I struck oil…or at least, found a gold nugget the way I was jumping and smiling!

ewwww, I didn’t hold it. I took many ‘o pics though! Oh and just so you know, we let the poor thing go. We put it in the flower bed where the soil had just been watered and it was nice and muddy.

She’s a cutie and a sweetie (when she wants to be).

Yep! It’s Chuckie E Cheese alright! B was invited to his little friend, Avery’s birthday party. He really does like this place, um, like a whole lot. He likes mostly the bigger kids’ games. Seriously, this boy loves him some video games. I promise we limit his time playing games on the Play Station, Wii, iPad, iphone, and even the PC. Especially, the ones on the Playstation. I even tell him, that too many video games will turn his brain to mush. I pretend I look in his ears to his brain. :) Well, most of the games we provide for him are educational anyway. They are interactive and provide opportunity for higher order thinking. However, I’m not going to lie,…some are not educational. An example would be Little Big Planet. It is a game for young kids targeting upper elementary. Yeah, my kid is unbelievably skilled when it comes to this game considering he is only 3. This game requires creativity and inventiveness. It provides opportunity for children to take ownership in what they create. Did I mention strategizing skills are needed? Seriously. Kids have to predict, think ahead, and it’s connected to real word experiences. How? You may ask. Well, in this game you create levels and day to day activities can be inspirational to levels created. So, for not falling under “educational”…it’s not too bad, I don’t think. I’m just sayin’ and I think I read that on the game description. Ha! Not to mention, the hand/eye coordination is a benefit. Neat huh? (Okay, I tend to go off on tangents…sorry).

Anyway, we certainly had fun at Chuckie E Cheese! Take a look!

I realize this is one of his very last ‘in undies’ photo shoot, but isn’t he cute? I mean, he can’t stay little forever, and I totally had to capture this fun on camera. His giggles, squeals, moves, and energy brought so many heart-warming feelings to me this mother’s day weekend. I promise, as I was watching and clicking away, I joined in with the giggling. I tried so hard to erase any nagging “to do lists’ out of my mind. I relaxed my shoulders, enjoyed the sunshine, and focused directly on him – the feeling of overflowing love and happiness he gives me. Not only did I let the feeling take over, I thanked God for giving me the little boy of my dreams…AND the family of my dreams. These pictures are of him and all his cuteness, yes. However, they only remind me of my imperfect family that is completely perfect for me!

Dear Booga, you have completed our family so perfectly. I cherished this moment in time with you. All the fun wiped you out. I captured you as you slept so peacefully. Confession: I watched you long after I put the camera away. Maybe, just maybe, I wept silently only because you make my heart so happy. You are a gift. The Bluebonnet is the symbol of grace, forgiveness, and mercy. It is named for it’s color and resemblance to a bonnet. As it is the state flower, Texas Bluebonnet, I can’t say I have been more in awe of it’s beauty than I have been this spring. I totally enjoyed walking through this field of true blues. It gave me a sense of freedom, warmth, and longing. Longing for more time with my family. Longing to spend time outdoors and truly appreciate God’s gift of nature. Needless to say, I took advantage of the time surrounded by these beautiful flowers. Not only was the scene magnificent, I will forever connect the Bluebonnet to why Brayden has a little spring in his step. Take a peek!

Ten Fun Facts (not everyone knows) about Everything England

1. My hubby and I are celebrating our 5th year anniversary this June. We are taking a family vacation to Negril Jamaica this summer. We are celebrating the four of us!

2. I’ve been diagnosed with ADD from two different psychiatrists and one certified general practitioner. It’s really not a bad thing. I use it to my advantage, as I am a genius when it comes to multitasking. I learn things quickly, and I am considered by others to be creative. Oh, and somehow I can go on an average of 6 hours of sleep a night.

3. In 1998 when I gave birth to my daughter, I broke my tailbone during the birth. That was the worst pain I have ever experienced! Now, I can say (when she has her diva attitude)..”Listen girl! I broke my tailbone for you. The least you can do is show a little love to your momma.”

4. I hold a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Early Childhood K-6. I have a Master’s in Early Childhood with a specialization in Reading. Both degrees came from the University of North Texas! Go Mean Green!

5. Everything England was originally started to keep loved ones updated on my pregnancy and the birth of my son. However, as blogging became so natural and I totally loved it, I knew I had to continue to journal. Sharing (whether personal, helpful, interesting, funny, or factual) , it is uplifting, honest and positive!

6. I am a HUGE photographer/hobbyist! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Can’t begin to explain, the enjoyment I get knowing I am Capturing Memories!

7. I hate to be reprimanded. I also tend to take responsibility for mishaps, miscommunications, etc…even when it’s not my fault. I guess, I can’t stand when people don’t take responsibility for their actions (and words) or always get defensive…I don’t ever want to be at fault for doing such things…so I go the extreme. That being said, I stand up for myself. I’m strong like that.

8. I am a big workout fanatic! Seriously. It makes me feel so good knowing I am in excellent health for my children and family. I’m heart healthy and head healthy! Yay me!

9. I trim my eye lashes. Yeah, you read it right. Four on the left eye and two or three on the right. A countless number of people ask me if I get eyelash extensions and/or if I use Latisse (that prescription to grow long dark eye lashes)…The answer is: My eyelashes are very real. My daughter and son both have the same lashes!

10. So funny…I am becoming the ultimate cheer mom! There has even been some DRAMA. There seriously needs to be a reality show titled: Where there are cheer moms, there’s drama!…Ha! Loving every minute of the intense, go go go, tumble tumble tumble life.

Happy Bag-day to Me!

Yep! Last Friday, April Fool’s Day, I celebrated my 37th birthday! I have to admit my week preceding my special day was kinda crummy. I can’t really even think of a reason why, other than I felt over worked and crazy tired. I didn’t see my hubby much due to his added responsibilities at work and Nealy started private cheer lessons a few weeks ago (meaning I was on the go, go, AND, go). There were layoffs at work, and although I wasn’t worried about my job, I was worried about others. It just simply was just not a great week.

Friday at the gym, one of my BFF’s, Aspen announces she is treating me to Starbucks for my birthday. Our dear friend, Silvia meets us there and we sit, sip, eat, and enjoy. It was a GREAT morning. The day was filled with tons of messages, goodies and love. My sweet K kiddos were unbelievably generous, excited and loving. One of the moms put together a little surprise and they all brought me an assortment of flowers. My team at work brought yummy pound cake, whip cream, hu-mungo strawberries, and their happy spirits to my room during our planning period. LOVE my peeps at work! I am blessed.

I get home that afternoon to be greeted by my two boys, dressed up and ready to go. Nealy was with friends (she was so sweet the day before explaining she knew it was my birthday…but, missed her friends bc she hadn’t seen them due to cheer). The hubs, B, and I headed out to dinner (so I thought). We actually headed to North Park Mall. I didn’t catch on until we were actually walking into Neiman’s. I was giddy (but, still not certain about what birthday gift my honey had in store). Well,… I got to pick out a new LV!!!!!! Needless to say, I already knew which one I wanted as I have drooled over it a few times online. Neiman’s was SOLD OUT! Boo! Well, LV had one left and I couldn’t walk fast enough to the store. WOW! What an amazing birthday surprise!!! My hubby is CRAZY wonderful. (Shout out to my honey: I LOVE YOU!) He’s a very generous gift giver. SO love this bag! HEART that I can carry my camera, B’s books, an Ipad, etc in it. So here she is…yes, indeed, she’s a beauty.

A Walk in the Park

Warm temperatures with a cool breeze is one of my favorite weather conditions. Especially, if it’s paired with some alone time with my favorite little man. I spend countless hours of alone time with Nealy, due to her extra-curricular activities. Not to mention, we’re just two peas in a pod. Brayden is a BIG TIME daddy’s boy. I love the relationship my boys have. However, I love my little guy like crazy and I know it’s important to build our relationship (however, God has it in plan for us). I will say, I cherish the moments I spend with Brayden. I plan carefully to make the time needed to spend quality time with him. Not just reading and teaching…blah blah, but playing, talking, touching, joking, exploring, laughing, …bonding! Thus, I present to you candid photos, (one or two set out to capture of my little guy)! AND more importantly snapshots of our time together bonding. LOVE my Booga-licious!

I forgot to mention, that he actually drove to the park, and I ran. (Yes, you read correctly, I ran). Totally not by choice (hate to run). Daddy, somehow was able to change the speed of B’s jeep. Yep! It’s not slow. I had camera in hand, running in flops, and pulling up my shorts…oh, let’s say every 10 seconds. It was AWESOME!

Out of nowhere Brayden took a sudden interest in my camera. He was all about looking through the “scope” to shoot wildlife…um, and me.

I was able to borrow my camera for a few shots! No, he didn’t fall. There were several before these…he was just running, acting silly - releasing energy.

B took over as photographer again!:) As much as I was a little worried he would drop the camera. He never did and he was very careful with it. I ~~taught~~ tried to teach him how to back focus (he was so interested) but, I think his hands were just a bit too small and he couldn’t really keep the camera steady…he was super cute taking pictures. I literally had about 50 he took of me and over 100 in all.

I’ll keep this little adventure in my heart forever. It was Brayden’s first time to take photos, we explored as we talked about oak trees. We talked about how acorns grow on oak trees, drop, and the cycle starts all over again. I explained very few acorns grow to be oak trees and why. I was able to tell the steps with such amazing knowledge (because I just did this last week with my kids at school) ha ha!;) I asked him if he could think of other trees and seeds. So funny! For trees, he thought of Christmas tree and tall trees with green leaves:). For seeds, he gave me bird seeds and acorns. I gave other examples….expanding on this will make for a fun little activity soon!

NOT so typical Monday

Yesterday was fabulous! My two and I went to lunch at TGIF Fridays, and then hit the movie theater for a little Gnomeo and Juliet…SUCH a cute movie! It was in 3D too!

Now, the 3D part of this was a little surprise. I actually didn’t know this until after we paid for our tickets. I was a teensy bit ~~nervous~~, hesitant, because Brayden has reservations about things he’s not accustomed to. This was his very first movie in a theater experience. I make it sound like it’s a big deal and happens a lot, but in reality? It doesn’t. I just know he is a cautious kid. As we found seats, it was literally 3 minutes later and the movie started. Aah,…and I thought we were going to be late. It was actually perfect. I snuck B’s glasses on from the side and he left them ON! What’da ya know! I was pleased, to say the least. I mean, he totally gets the whole “this is a new situation, new learning activity” thing. He’s really super smart. (the 11 1/2 months of nursing paid off….:) Seriously, I was happy he accepted the large-dark room and loud volume of the movie. We ALL enjoyed popcorn, Twizzlers, and huge cherry-vanilla Coke!

I HEART the spring break week. LOVE spending time with my kiddos doing fun things. I can’t wait for summer to do things like this and more. So here are my cuties! I LOVE YOU TWO!

Our cheer season has ended and we are looking forward to the next. Right now, Nealy’s team the Katz ended with a 1st place at the the last competition, Spirit Celebration (post & photos to come). It was an amazing way to “finish up!” At NCA they were in 1st the first day (of the two day competition) and ended up in 3rd. Even though, our girls were a little blue, it was a fun and super exciting weekend!

Winning at CA is a "shore" thing! Nealy is a bit “too cool” for her own good so she went with a big bump rather than any other “shorely” outrageous ‘do!….Lovin’ Le Poofy Pony! Lovin’ her!

Friday, February 25 -- CLOWN Day -- CA will be ALL SMILES on Friday. Get ready for the fun in the circus of team practices inside the CA Big Top!

Backing it up to the Saturday before NCA Theme Week, we had CA day! This is where all 17 CA teams performed for family and friends at Naaman Forest High School. It was a entertaining event. We spent a few days before the event making posters to display and they will also be displayed in the Katz practice room at NCA All-Star Nationals. Let’s go CA!!!!!

Cupid Struck

Our Valentine’s Day was calm and relaxing. We usually don’t do anything over the top, and this year wasn’t any different. We had a “honey and me” night on Saturday, and a “Love Lunch” as a family on Sunday (the day before Valentine’s Day). It was so nice not to have our regularly super-busy weekend and just relax and enjoy each other. Oh! I did finish my buffet…nothing too grand, but sweet I think.

Throughout the week I added teensy treats to present to kids on Sunday. I just stuffed heart shaped baskets with tissue to hold all the goods! I needed a bit of height (you know for the presentation:), thus the little heart sticks and I hot glued Kit-Kat mini bars to wooden skewers. When I was a kid (about Nealy’s age), my mom would give my sister and I make-up as little gifts for V-Day. So…sure enough, I am following that tradition with my pre-teen!

just for words

So, these are just a few of the words Brayden can read and find in text. These (well, except for ‘dad’) are in the guided reading books I’ve been introducing and he’s been reading. He’s been a teensy bit resistant to reading and doing word work lately. Sooooo, leave it up to his very clever mama, me! While he was ~~trapped~~, in the bath, I had him right where I wanted him. ~~Trapped~~!….I mean,…in the bath:). He couldn’t run away and resist. I arranged the words on the board and let him shoot the word I read with a little squirting fish from the bath tub. He really liked this, hence no photos. There was no way I was about to risk losing his attention. Especially, since he was so engaged. After playing that a few times, I rearranged the words on the board and pointed for him to read and if he was correct (which he always was…my little scholar), he could squirt me in the tummy. HUGE motivator! Needless to say I kept rearranging and he kept on squirting his little fish. After it was all said and done, I had a very wet t-shirt (ewww, that didn’t sound nice…but, you get it), and (in Brayden’s words) squeaky clean kid, who participated successfully in a nice little word review. Woo-hoo!

This is actually after the bath and I was trying to pose him…and as you can see, he had totally moved on. He sure was playing Transformers on Playstation:) I kept saying, “smile booga”…and he did his best. Notice his crooked smile and all the while, not taking his eyes off the t.v.

I HEART magnetic letters and numbers so much. Maybe it’s the kindergarten teacher in me, but I really do LOVE them. These inexpensive magnetic letters and numbers are available in all kinds of different, fonts and styles. From the thick, chunky and tactile plastic versions that are perfect for younger hands, right through to the thinner, illustrated letters for a little bit older children. Using these tactile letters or numbers for learning has proven to be a very successful practice. Even, from a very early age, children can be encouraged to learn through playing with the letters. They don’t have to know what each letter is and the sound it makes rather sort them by attributes. Here are some examples;

This helps with graphophonemic awareness (letter identification and sound identification) as a child starts to become familiar with the letters.

Really young children can sort by color as mommy says names of letters just so a child is exposed to them and the names. I know last year, Brayden liked to match the ‘mommy’ letter (upper case) to the ‘baby’ letter (lower case). Once he learned all upper case and lower case letters, he would match beginning sound pictures to the letters. Now, he is currently building words and even builds short phrases and sentences from words he knows. Later, we’ll move to finding patterns in words like: –at in the words: cat, bat, hat, sat.

Learning through play is an important part of a child’s development and helps him gain confidence and independence. Especially, in their learning. While I am playing and at the same time teaching my toddler, I praise him like crazy for doing well and not criticize any of his mistakes. He’s my booga boo and I am just so proud of his effort and interest at this age of 3 and half.

SO…I encourage you to get your toddler or any toddler you know a set of magnetic letters and/or numbers. They are a whole lotta fun!

Show the LOVE!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! My kids love when I decorate even if it’s just a little for each holiday. I found this super cute idea at one of my favorite idea blogs…and I made these pretty rose balls too! I think they came out so pretty. I should have my buffet completed this week (as I am leaving it up the whole month) and I will be sure to post the completed romantic look. Anyway without further ado, here is what you need to make these yourself:

1. glue gun and glue sticks

2. streamers (valentine colors of your choice)

3. Styrofoam balls (think of where you want them and choose the size)

Here’s what you do:

You just fold the streamer in half, gently. You don’t want a flat fold otherwise you won’t get a nice “poof.” Start rolling it around as you pinch the bottom. Once it looks like a little rose, you put a teensy bit of glue so it doesn’t unravel. Then you just glue it right on the Styrofoam ball. You continue to do this making sure you glue the roses close together so there aren’t any “bald” spots.

I only did about 3/4 of the pink so that it would fit snug in this little cup!

Very fun, very inexpensive, and they make a bright & LOVABLE statement!

dream a little dream

These photos to follow are of areas, houses, & roads I travel down almost daily and sometimes twice a day. These scenes have existed from the time my husband was a child (and he’s been able to see them since then). For me they have only been in my mind in recent years. I dream about places like this. I picture waking up early on bright winter’s morning drinking my coffee and looking out and appreciating scenes just like these. They bring me a sense of peace, security and serenity that I can’t quite explain. I have always gravitated to the country, land and nature. It’s like this unbreakable pull that is always there but, sometimes I can ignore it. To be honest, I think I fought quite well back in the day. I let trends and social expectations get the better of me and have always lived in the city in a neighborhood or complex of some sort. Now, I don’t want to be hypocritical because I have never disliked where I have lived, and where I live now. It’s just the idea of living on land (even if it’s a teensy bit) and in a farmhouse has been so irresistible to me within recent months…maybe even year. I don’t want animals (that came out wrong). I don’t want to take care of animals and have an actual farm that needs a lot of upkeep. Although, I sincerely admire today’s farmer and anyone who has to work daily on their property, that’s just not my thing. I have researched farmhouses. I even Google: farmhouses for sale…etc. I mean it’s ~~kinda~~ an OBSESSION. It’s driving my hubby ~~a little~~…completely bananas. I can’t help it though. I even made this:

….that’s not a lot to ask. Am I right?

I have also found tons o’ blogs about farmhouses, renovating them and decorating them. Aah…farmhouse heaven! The farmhouse I hope to score…will only need minimal renovations. I can only imagine how fun it would be to decorate a quaint little farmhouse (NOT country/craft, rather cozy, warm, modern,…with the slightest bit of traditional farmhouse spice. Oh and a splash if vintage). I will say, I have read that farmhouses are a current trend and making a huge comeback. What the???? Trend? That is exactly what I thought I wasn’t doing,…following some sort of trend. Boo! Oh and get this, (I feel so naive), but apparently, many girls have MY farmhouse dream! Seriously? Oh well, I know that I have always had this little dream since I was a child. Silly of me to think that no one else shares this dream. Isn’t that with everything? People DO share similar dreams. Anyway, when I was little my grandparents lived on about 2 and half acres in Goree TX, which is a little itty bitty city in Knox County. As a child, I would daydream about the sweet little farmhouses we’d pass on our drive from Plano to visit Grandma and Grandpa. Those were the days….AND these are the days I have today. I leave you with a few photos that inspire me and let me dream MY little dream. I’ll keep dreaming bc you never know where dreams will lead. (wink wink…to my honey).

Now this is the house I “ooh and aah” about all the time. It’s hard to tell but, it does sit on a little hill. The little road you see ONLY leads up to this house and the land behind it. Driving from the opposite direction on the road you see (photo above) you can catch a glimpse of a beautiful back porch and possibly detached garage in the same crisp white. One day I may be brave and just drive up there. :)

This one below is ADORABLE! This is where Brayden gets his hair cut. The family is friends with Scott’s family….AND this red beauty is for sale!!! It’s too cute! Really, it is! I picked B up there once or twice. Just the feel when driving up is unexplainable. Instantly a sense of curiosity, warmth, and overall good feeling begins.

I can see my family sitting on that front porch on a warm summer night enjoying a big ‘ole glass of iced tea. I know it’s not about WHERE you live rather, HOW you live. BUT, my HOW would be so much more complete HERE….I’ll keep dreaming my little dream!:) What’s your little dream?

After being cooped in for 3 days straight, I finally got out yesterday. All the ice hype was simmering down for me. Yeah, it was cold but, I mean not THAT cold. I guess I was just amazed that the streets were drive-able and sure there were some slick areas (where you had to be very careful) but, I just didn’t get it. So this morning, I woke up to make some ‘sweet lovelies” (that post coming later) and I totally forgot that it even was suppose to snow during the night. I noticed there was an unusual white brightness peeking it’s way in through the blinds. When I looked out of the office window….HOLY SNOW! It was simply beautiful. I immediately asked B if he wanted to go play. Knowing he could have said, “nope.”…He’s funny that way. He actually said, “Yeah, I need to put all my clothes on so I don’t turn into a snowman.” I explained we were only going to go out for just a little bit (as the temperature was below freezing). He seemed fine with that and even said, “we don’t want to turn into ice-cubes?”…it was more of a question than a statement. I said, “absolutely not!” and we were off! Off to our front yard for some glorious SnOw my GooDneSS FuN!

After our snow outing, we ran in (stripped our wet clothes off and put dry pj’s on) and snuggled up in front of the tube under a big blanket on the couch. Now, that’s what I call a great morning!

Souper Cheddar & Beer Delight

This is such a yummy bowl of cheesy-goodness on a cold winter’s evening! You must give it a try. It really makes your taste buds dance with delight. You don’t believe me? Ask my sister. She told me a good few times how good it was:).

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup diced carrot
6 cups chicken stock
1 pound Cheddar cheese, grated
3/4 cup flour
dash of Tabasco sauce, to taste
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 can (12oz) beer
crock-pot

Now, just so you know, you can get this recipe online. It’s what I did. However, and that’s a (BIG) However…I changed it up just a tad to make the texture and thickness of the soup…well, thicker and added some texture. Instead of diced carrots you can see they are little “matchstick” shaped. I also added 1/2 pound of Cheddar and 1/4 cup of flour. It came out delish!…Lovin’ me some sharp Cheddar!

Here’s what to do:

Sauté onion and celery until soft and transparent. Sauté the diced carrots until tender but still a little crisp. Place sautéed vegetables in a large crock-pot; add chicken stock. Keep your crock-pot on high. Combine Cheddar cheese with flour; stir mixture slowly into hot broth. Add Tabasco, dry mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer. Add beer; heat through and serve it up to 4-6 of your family members or friends! It’s sure to be a hit! Oh, you can add a little salt (to taste) once served.

A fun addition to preparation time? Since you only need one beer (and typically beer is sold in a pack of six), er,… you can enjoy a couple as you make this cheesy delight!:) Enjoy!

Cheerific Weekends

Reflecting on this year’s (almost over) cheer season, makes me smile. Seriously! Like having hundreds of cheerleaders surrounding you at a national competition?….like, OMG!..Okay, I’m kidding, but you get the idea. It’s crazy! It’s crazy-fun! Nealy has loved every minute of our fast-paced, non stop, high-energy weekends. And, I gotta admit, so have I. I am the BEST cheer mom e.v.e.r! Who would’ve thought? Certainly not me, but just as I am, I totally heart being a cheer mom. LOVE it! Nealy is so competitive that she can hardly stand it and cheer is the perfect sport for her. It’s challenging, as I mentioned, TOTALLY high energy and keeps her fit and healthy. She pushes herself and I find that she practices outside of the training times (that are approximately 6 hours a week BTW). So far we’ve had two national competitions. First being in Forth Worth (where we placed 3rd…boo!) and in Houston (where we placed 4th ….double boo!). Katz won their first 3 competitions. We are totally awesome! We are sharp and well synchronized. A very impressive team indeed. So much fun to watch! However, we ran into some glitches (the routine was changed up as the skill level bar was raised…and though the girls are stepping up to the plate, they are still learning). These last two competitions were good eye openers and the competition was definitely STIFF. This made our girls hungry to do better! I’ll post a video soon! So stay tuned for that. Anyway, here are some snapshots of our last two cheer-ific weekends. G3FCA2A! (Oh and for NCA in Houston, I forgot my camera at home. Argh!…don’t ask). Fortunately, my sis had her mini-digital.

So happy to have barely missed the ice storm!….This girl loves to ooVoo!

I am big on supporting something I really believe in. Especially, if it is helping children. Early Childhood Education is my area of expertise. As many of you already know, I have taught kindergarten for 12 years. Year after year I am “filling my bag” of techniques and strategies…learning how young children learn and how to teach them effectively. More importantly, I am molding and shaping young children’s learning foundation and building a love of learning Watching a child blossom as he gains knowledge through playing, direct instruction, modeling, and social interaction is so gratifying.

Lowering Levels of Frustration in Early Learning using Sign Language

One Day after…{3 years & 6 months later}

My booga boy turned 3 and half the day after Christmas. Oh.how.I.love.him! I took these pictures of him (on December 26th) and to me, he is just absolutely perfect. I love the way these pics turned out. I think they capture so much of his curious and silly personality. The inner photography geek in me appreciates & admires the bokeh in the background. Stuffing that geek back in, the mommy in me sees a happy, smart, confident, & lovable little boy. AND that is what’s important!

This little boy never ceases to amaze me. He has such a funny little personality. He gets jokes. He reads his environment. He assesses emotions. Totally, above average when interpreting non-verbal communication. He just gets it. One day, a few months ago he changed his Jumpstart character, Blake Silver Coyote from a cool dude with wild-black hair like his own to a girl with a hot pink wig (bobbed style). Well, I initially thought Nealy was playing a not so nice trick on him. She’s totally known to do that! So, I changed it back to the cool dude for him. (He had taken a break from the game). When I walked back into the office later, he had already changed it back to the girl with the pink ‘do. This time I inquired! I asked him if he wanted Blake Silver Coyote to have girl hair….pink hair? He said, “yes” eyeing my face to try and read my response. I just smiled.
I left it at that. Well, a couple days later, daddy sees his character’s transformation. He wasn’t too happy, and only encourage him to change it back (never saying anything negative). Brayden was having NO part in it. After he played a while he came out to the living room and announced, “I get it, I’m a boy! I was just pee-tending.” He had an attitude (as to say), “what’s wrong with you people? Don’t YOU get it? Pretend. It’s what little kids do! Duh?” We all just looked at him wide-eyed. So funny! Since? Blake Silver Coyote is back to his original coolness!

Just a few of the things Brayden LOVES!

playing hunting games on the wii, reading (YES! He can read! NOT even kidding), playing Chutes and Ladders for preschoolers, guns (yikes!..I know), playing some (eeks! not so age appropriate) Playstation games, going to restaurants, playing outside, riding his new Jeep, wrestling with Nealy, watching Bambi, going “hunting”…he takes his scope, building a thicket to hide in out of the laundry basket, doing cartwheels (they’re actually pretty good), playing on the iPad, or his iPod, playing Angry Birds on daddy’s phone, playing Jumpstart on the computer, snuggling with mommy and daddy in bed, running around the kitchen sink, Pecan Spin-wheels, grapefruit, blueberries, bananas and strawberries. Best of all? Eskimo Kisses!

A few things that have surprised mommy!

* A few months ago he asked daddy an interesting question. (In conversation, Scott was telling B that he was going to Gran’s house the next day bc we had to work). We always tell him the night before where he’ll be. He stays with Gran 3 days a week and my mom here at home 2 days a week. Anyway, Brayden asked, “Daddy what do I do when I miss you?” OMG! This gave me a knot in my throat. Isn’t that a mature question? Scott told him to tell Gran and she would help him, hold him, and that we’d be there soon to get him, AND that it would be okay. Brayden nodded and said, “Okay, that sounds like a good idea.” Are you kidding me, this kid is so in tune with the basics!

* During the potty training stage (we’re still there…just a little), B had an accident (and of course we never shamed him or reprimanded him) rather continued to encourage him. So, after the fact, he says, “I’m still little, I’m still not a big boy.” This just told me, he subconsciously was struggling with the added responsibility. Now, that may seem too much of a far fetched analysis of his comment but, seriously the primary years are SO developmental. He was expressing that he was still “little” almost like he wanted us to be understanding of his mistake. Sweet boy.

* He is a computer wiz kid! He loves launching Jumpstart himself and can even get to our Google Chrome page and launch this very blog. He exits out of programs like it’s nobody’s business and launches what he wants. In his words, INCREDIBLE…just INCREDIBLE.

* He is so good at playing Smurf Village on the iPad. He grows crops, and bakes all kinds of goodies for the Smurfs. Bottom line? He loves technology. He’s interested in it and learns quickly. It was a surprise when he entered the code in to my phone to unlock it one day a few weeks ago. I didn’t even teach it to him. He must have taken notice a few times I entered it. Crazy.

* He reads. Really. He reads words…pages….BOOKS! Yes, it started as memorizing patterned books but, as he learned his letters and all the sounds (along with having a bank of picture/letter sound associations..several for each letter)…and this was well over a year ago, we moved on to simple high frequency words. All the while (before he even knew all his letters) I was hitting concepts of print pretty hard…just out of habit. Anyway, he started finding the hfwd’s within text and can read them in isolation too! Then I started a very simple guided reading program with him (that I learned as an early childhood teacher but, changed it up to meet a toddler’s needs…more specifically his needs). Once engaged, this little boy can stay focused for a good 10-15 minutes. Longer if he just has to listen and look but, if he is actually “doing,” the time is considerably less. Oh unless it’s on the computer, wii, or playstation. (grin) So…don’t get me wrong, he’s not reading chapter books or picking up any ‘ole book and reading away (not just yet, anyway), but he certainly can find a word, or two, or three..heck, maybe even more in the text. As of right now, he is reading patterned books, familiar-simple books, books that are in no way patterned yet, are easy to decode and he is unbelievably good at using picture, and “getting his mouth ready” strategies. (P.R.O.U.D momma)

A few things Brayden has taught all of us!

* never and I do mean NEVER underestimate a young child’s cognitive ability. Oh, and same goes for their “trickery” ability. The smarter, the more manipulative. Mark my words. I provide the info based on real-life experience;).

* a positive attitude, positive words, and a positive behavioral management approach goes a LOT further than the negative.

* It’s okay to be reserved and a bit particular about certain events, & activities. Sure, sometimes we must leave our “comfort” zone, but life is too short to worry too much about it.

* go with the flow and don’t worry about mishaps…they happen. Some may be avoidable, some aren’t…just deal. Make the best of it!

* say, “I missed you SOOOOOOOOO much.” even if you were gone just an hour.

* White rice for dinner is okay. Yeah, and just white rice. Nothing more. As long it’s every now and then and the rest of the family is enjoying Chinese. It’s okay that the big boy eats plain ‘ole white rice. We don’t “restaurant” our kids. They eat what we eat. We have a balanced diet (most of the time:) so all is good!

* PJ day…all day is a good thing. It’s fun, comfy, and quality family time.

* validate validate validate! Just bc he is only 3 1/2 doesn’t mean what he wants or feels isn’t important. Yeah, he may not want to go to bed at our scheduled bedtime…but, validating his want to stay up and being sensitive about it brings the outcome WE want and leaves him feeling okay about it. I didn’t say happy, but okay. AND that works!

* he didn't teach us this one…but, he sure does give us a nice reminder.

LOVE LOVE LOVE unconditionally and be so very thankful!

We ADORE you, our Booga-licious. You have that one little spot on your neck that is an addiction and I MUST give it kisses. It gives me energy. YOU give me energy! We ALL LOVE you our little Booga-boo!

A Very Merry Christmas

We woke up just in time to hear Santa huff and puff as he was scooting himself up the chimney;). It was early around 8:00 or so. I can’t express the amount of excitement Brayden had this year. He anticipated this morning more than ever. I had to go upstairs to wake the big girl. (sigh) She is in that preteen growing phase. She requires some serious sleep (& you would NEVER guess it by looking at her, but serious amounts of food too). Anyway, she dragged a teensy bit but, was more than happy to come down to quickly join her little brother to see what Santa delivered.

I wouldn’t give up the time with my two babies for anything. I mean we had such a nice Christmas together. And, I totally know I am blessed with such beautiful, healthy, happy, kind, and smart children. I SO treasure our time together as a family. As I look at these pictures, I realize how fast my two grow…how fast all children grow. Aah, I hold these times so dear to my heart.

After the kids sorted through their piles Santa left and opened a few of the toys etc. My little guy was ready to ride his Jeep Santa so graciously gave him.

So yeah, after a nice little Christmas morning with my sweet family of four, we two girls and two boys headed on over The England’s (sigh and bat of my lashes). We were happy to join Scott’s parents and sister (along with her family) for more joyous family time. We enjoyed a traditional (dang delicious) Christmas lunch and took joy in giving and receiving goodies! These next pics are just random spare of the moment captures. (love)
